On 26 and 27 May 2026, SMEs, startups, public administration representatives, and European Commission officials gathered in Madrid to explore international digital opportunities and strengthen collaboration across innovation ecosystems. Maika Gorostidi, Co-director of the EU-LAC Digital Accelerator, participated as a speaker.

Organised by the Office for Digital Spain 2030 and Internationalisation, in collaboration with the European Commission under the Global Gateway initiative, the event focused on helping Spanish companies better understand and access international digital programmes.

Among the speakers was María González Veracruz, Spain’s Secretary of State for Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence, who highlighted the strength of the Spanish technology ecosystem and the importance of working closely with the European Commission to reinforce Europe’s technological sovereignty.

The sessions provided practical insights into initiatives such as the Investment Hub, highlighting how they can support business internationalisation and participation in international digital projects. Participants also shared their perspectives on the opportunities, capabilities, and challenges involved in joining international digital initiatives.

The programme continued with the Digital for Development (D4D) Hub Investment Workshop, which explored opportunities for collaboration among Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The event marked another step towards strengthening the international presence of Spanish technology and contributing to a more competitive European digital offering.
