The innovation ecosystem’s most prominent and influential agents gathered in Barcelona on February 27th and 28th at the 4YFN to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this international event. Expanded halls, stages, and speakers created a rich and productive environment for the EU-LAC Digital Accelerator to participate in.

On behalf of EU-LAC Digital Accelerator, representatives from Tecnalia, EBAN and IESE participated in the event that brought together a vibrant global community of innovators. In addition to sponsoring 4YFN, the partner Wayra provided a stand and meeting point for innovators interested in the opportunities offered by the EU-LAC Digital Accelerator. Investors, startups and corporates were welcomed to the stand to engage in activities that promoted business connections between Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Launching EU-LAC investor community

More than 1,000 of the world’s most influential investors and venture capitalists gather at 4YFN to exchange ideas, collaborate on investment projects and support the participating startups. In the frame of this event, the EU-LAC Digital Accelerator organised a networking breakfast, bringing together the community of participating investors and sessions featuring collaboration activities with hybrid breakout rooms, which provide an exclusive space for fruitful exchanges of approaches, such as the contribution of Israel Pons from Mexico, this initiative was made possible with the support of 4YFN.

Sergio Bandinelli, the EU-LAC Digital Accelerator Coordinator, underlined the relevance of involving investors since the early stages of the generation of EU-LAC partnerships and joint ventures. “Business angels, as smart investors, are interested in facilitating to the internationalization of the startups in their portfolio. EU-LAC Digital Accelerator provides effective mechanisms to access to customers on the other side of the Atlantic and, in this way, is a valuable tool for angel investors” affirmed Bandinelli.

To overcome the barriers of cross-regional investment, EU-LAC Digital Accelerator and Abel Fernández Moreno (EBAN) introduced the investor masterclasses initiative. “We not only launched the EU-LAC investor community but also introduced strategies to explore new ecosystems, which received enthusiastic responses. This event was a fantastic opportunity to introduce the EU-LAC Digital Accelerator project to investors for the first time, allowing us to gather invaluable feedback and insights. Such feedback is crucial as it empowers us to better understand how we can strengthen our support for startups and corporates in the future. From EBAN, we look forward to starting these masterclasses in Spring 2024″ stated Abel Fernández.

Building connections across the Atlantic

As a renowned gathering, 4FYN is a platform where 39 countries unite to support new business ventures. Every year, startups attend the event to network and participate in discussions around cutting-edge topics, while corporations seek to collaborate with like-minded individuals to co-create innovative products and services. The EU-LAC Digital Accelerator was introduced at the event as a facilitator to help generate meaningful business connections across different regions.

Wayras’ stand was the central hub for discovering the potential of the EU-LAC Digital Accelerator program for startups, corporations and business partnerships. During the event, one day was dedicated to presenting opportunities for Latin American, Caribbean and European startups interested in establishing connections with venture clients.

According to Josemaria Siota, Executive Director of IESE Business School’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center, “At the 4FYN, we received corporations seeking to innovate with deep-tech startups. The EU-LAC Digital Accelerator aims to support this bridge between international corporates and innovative founders across Europe and Latin America.”

All in all, the successful participation of the EU-LAC Digital Accelerator at 4YFN underscored the importance of forging meaningful connections for businesses across regions.
