On May 23rd, we hosted an online webinar in collaboration with Start-Up Chile to showcase the opportunities our accelerator offers in connecting Chilean and Latin American startups with corporates from Europe and the Caribbean. With the participation of the EU Delegation in Chile, the session attracted startups interested in expanding their business internationally.

Carlos José Bravo, Corporate Network Manager from Start-Up Chile, inaugurated the webinar by encouraging attendees to leverage the EU-LAC Digital Accelerator’s connections with Europe and the Caribbean. Start-Up Chile, a public business accelerator supported by Corfo and the Chilean Government, has been empowering technology startups since 2010.

“In a decade, Start-Up Chile entrepreneurs have generated sales of more than two billion dollars globally. To sustain our economic growth, we must look towards the international scene,” stated Bravo.

Following the introduction, Ewout Sandker, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation in Chile, detailed the Digital Alliance framework by the European Union. This framework fosters substantial bi-regional cooperation across a wide spectrum of digital issues.

“One critical area of our bi-regional cooperation includes entrepreneurship alliances supporting digital transformation committed to a human-centric vision of the digital economy and society. This is why we are here today, with the EU-LAC Digital Accelerator,” expressed Sandker.

Maika Gorostidi then presented key information about the digital accelerator to the participating startups. These innovators can join the accelerator’s matching platform to connect with corporate and build cross-regional business partnerships which can apply for in-kind acceleration services when the open call opportunity arises.

“Our EU-LAC Digital Accelerator is likely the only initiative operating on a cross-regional scale. Its strength lies in the international experts who facilitate business connections and support them until they are investment ready. The results of the first Open Call for EU-LAC partnerships in smart production are already out, and the next one will focus on cleantech,” explained Gorostidi.

EU-LAC Digital Accelerator facilitates these connections via a matching platform available on the website. Ruben Carrandi described how corporates share their digital challenges, and startups propose smart solutions to create EU-LAC partnerships eligible for acceleration services.

“Two Chilean startups have already been selected in this first Open Call for the EU-LAC Digital Accelerator focused on smart production. The country has significant potential, and for the upcoming opportunities, we have several corporate challenges from Europe and the Caribbean on the matching platform seeking startup solutions,” encouraged Carrandi, urging participants to seize the opportunity.
